Plate G4.no8: Windows at Night: The Kings Theatre (Glasgow)
I have no long-standing relationship with the Kings Theatre in Glasgow. It never featured in my life in the same way, say, the Glasgow Apollo did. The Kings, as the name suggests, supports theatrical activities, whereas the Apollo rocked – and my affinities lie with the latter.
However, whilst I trained for treks (undertook 2016-18)*, I found myself passing the Kings on a regular basis; I also found myself attending on a number of occasions. Gradually, the building began to impress itself upon me, much in the same way as it has always impressed itself on the city: a distinctive place, resonating a worthy charm, its era bygone but worthy yet.
By day, the building appears to rest – but, at night, it comes alive, fittingly as theatres should.
