Plate G10.no1: Walking Between Worlds – The Grand Canyon (USA)
My life took a seismic shift whilst on this trek. A glimmer of the change had occurred on my previous trek, along Hadrian’s Wall. On the Canyons Trek, that glimmer was confirmed.
A consequence of my son’s death had been an implicit and undiagnosed need to do something, to fulfill an obligation. I realised, as I traversed first a field in England and then the vast canyon chasms resplendent in the USA, that there never had been any obligation to meet. I was released.
This picture encapsulates that realisation. The figure, staunchly upright surveying a space of colossal proportion and unimaginable scale, seeing unerringly what I saw: a place for what it was: a place where no folly nor misunderstanding could possibly persist.
