Plate G2.no12: The ‘Yankee Road’ (Faslane [Scotland])

Known officially as the ‘American’ road, colloquially the ‘Yankee Road’ runs approximately ten miles, from Garelochhead to Arrochar, West coast of Scotland.
It’s not much of a road, to be honest – nevertheless, the name persists: what roadway there is only came into being after the arrival of Americans at the nearby MoD Faslane Nuclear Base.
I walked this ‘road’ a few times as part of my training for charity treks undertaken between 2016-2018.* The picture was taken at the Southern Garelochead end. Its focus is obviously the road sign.
Initially, I felt this focus lacked suitable visual authority. However, as an analogy, the picture ultimately convinced: being grief consumed, I was so in need of direction; a storm was raging about me – any sign, however slight, helped.
