Plate G1.no19: Glascarnoch Dam (Scotland)

My father was a Civil Engineer. His choice of career was steered, providentially on account of a dam. Not this one, admittedly, but rather the one built in the 1950’s at Pitlochry (Scotland). As a teenager he watched it being built – and his future, as cast as the concrete from which that dam, and this, was formed.
I’ve always had a soft spot therefore, for dams. This is just one of many that wholesomely pepper Scotland’s glacial landscape.
And as to whether this is architecture or not? That’s a dialogue too broad for this forum. Suffice to say, it has firmness and delight in abundance; commodity perhaps less so, but two out three ain’t bad……
