Plate G6.no1: The Cobbler 1 – February 2016 – Mission Impossible
This picture was taken the first time I climbed the Cobbler. It was lunacy: February for a start, freezing and I, without the correct gear; and I was seriously unfit (I could hardly walk for a week afterwards) and emotionally, a wreck.
But the summit was reached, despite expectations otherwise, and I was rewarded not just by the sense of achievement, but by capturing the picture of the individual atop the peak.
At the time it seemed perfectly natural that someone should have been standing there – though looking at the picture now, it seems crazy, especially as the figure hunched so, seems elderly, and frail. It’s perhaps fitting however – grief had made me, aged prematurely, and had made everything seem impossible. Everything, even breathing.
But I breathe yet……
