Who’d of thought, that an image like this could come from a building built in the 1960’s? It would not be hard to imagine this being from some ancient Scottish tower house or castle – and that just goes to show, that the architects who designed this building – Isi Metzstein and Andy MacMillan – knew their references. They knew that the past matters.
I learnt many things from these two individuals, and I was forever in awe of their wisdom and knowledge. This was certainly one of their most enduring lessons. Curiously, as I think on it now, it was understated, as if the point really didn’t need to be emphasised. Of course, as an architect, you should understand the context within which one builds. Know your history…obviously…
