Plate G1.no9: (Seville) Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Sede (circa 16th C.) Seville (Spain)
For over three years I worked with several academic colleagues, from Europe and South America, on a collaborative academic project entitled: ADU (Architecture, Design and Urbanism). Our objective was to re-assess the educational parameters and priorities of schools of architecture to meet the demands of the 21st century.
We would meet in our respective cities, at which time tours would be on offer of sites of unique interest. One of these meetings was in Seville. We were taken to the cities cathedral and given access to the roof.
What stays with me, apart from being so up close to the tremendous buttresses, was seeing evidence of the construction. Less so the specific method (which is fascinating…), but the scratches made on the wall by the stone masons. Time, evaporated……
