Some ten miles or so West of Helensburgh, on the banks of the Gare Loch, sits the MoD Faslane Nuclear submarine base. Its presence, though beneficial to the local economy, cannot help but haunt the area: it hardly infers safety……
Whenever I look at this picture, I am reminded of the Star Wars proposal made by the Reagan era administration – the fancy being: that the Faslane base has realised its spectral potential, and is about to cast its nuclear fallout onto the nearby Helensburgh town, if not for the safety so obviously being commodiously provided.
Of course, I doubt whether a rainbow could effect that same level of envisaged protection, much as it would be welcome to wish it so.
