Plate G3.no6: Manhattan skyline (New York)
I don’t think it especial, this picture, form a compositional, nor content point of view. It kind of speaks for itself……though I’d suggest that what it now says has changed somewhat……
I was in a yellow cab at the time, heading into Manhattan over the Williamsburg Bridge (I think. It may have been the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge……) The Manhattan skyline was just there, impossible to miss……so I took the picture. Only later did I notice the clouds, and wonder, about what’s missing.
For there is something missing from this view, something especial, unique, and irreplaceable. An absence that will forever cloud this city……strange, how the lives of cities, can be so humanised, and suffer as people can.
And survive.
