Plate G4.no11: Glasgow past-time……

What goes up, must come down. Glasgow has taken this adage to heart, in my lifetime at least: I’ve seen four versions of the city……
Having read several biographies of Glasgow, I’m struck by how the city is admired from a historical perspective – especially of the great, invigorating times in the city’s development. What cost there is, is usually acknowledged as acceptable, comparatively – though the influx of the railways is one period which is universally criticised, for the damage wrought upon the city.
In the future, I suspect this rude impingement will be dwarfed, by my era – an era doubtless to be known as the most shameful period of the city’s history, when Glasgow elected to rip itself to pieces, repeatedly – without ever seeming to learn, discernment.
