Plate G4.no19: Glasgow City Chambers (1882)
Apparently, this building is the consequence of a bluff. At the time of its construction, Glasgow was bankrupt – yet a competition was set, and this building (designed by William Young) the outcome: evidently a product of ‘no expense spared’.
Bankrupt? Hardly…
Whether true or not, the building does sport one of the three Statues of Liberty in the world……that’s no bluff…
