Plate G7.no1: Carnasserie Castle – Kilmartin (Scotland)
I have a particular fondness for Carnasserie Castle. It sits to the North of Kilmartin Glen, a place I’d never heard of, until stumbling across it whilst looking for sites for some Year 2 architecture design projects.
Kilmartin is littered with ancient remains, standing stones and cairns, and hosts too the location of coronation of the olden kings of Scotland. History literally breathes through what is a truly magical place; ghosts abide and insist yet on their place in the universe.
Carnaserrie Castle, a 16th Century tower house, was the crowning moment, an architectural gem in its own right, the remnants of which tie that ancient history to the more recent, but both as determined in their capacity for place finding and placemaking.
